The central government revealed that over 1.22 lakh employees have opted for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) as of November 30, 2025. Effective from April 1, this scheme guarantees a pension of 50% of the average basic pay from the last 12 months of service for those completing 25 years of employment.

In Parliament, the government announced a one-time option for UPS subscribers to switch back to the National Pension System (NPS). However, this flexibility excludes employees facing disciplinary actions or penalties. The scheme also ensures a minimum monthly pension of ₹10,000 for 10 years of service and provides a 60% family pension in case of the pensioner’s demise.
