Moments after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) displayed high confidence. TMC State General Secretary Kunal Ghosh made an explosive claim, stating that the ruling party is on track to win more than 250 seats out of 294. Ghosh also specifically targeted the high-profile Nandigram constituency, asserting that the TMC will wrest it back from the BJP this time.

Addressing the media, Kunal Ghosh said, “The people of Bengal are firmly standing behind Mamata Banerjee. The overwhelming success of welfare schemes like Lakshmir Bhandar and the massive participation in Yuva Sathi camps are clear indicators of the public mood. We are confident that TMC will secure over 250 seats, making Mamata Banerjee the Chief Minister for the fourth consecutive time.” When asked about Nandigram, where the CM narrowly lost in 2021, Ghosh confidently predicted a reversal of fortune, claiming that “the people of Nandigram are ready to choose development over divisiveness.”

The TMC leader welcomed the ECI’s decision to conduct the polls in two phases, emphasizing that a shorter election window reflects a better law and order situation. While the BJP is banking on issues of anti-incumbency and corruption, Ghosh’s “250+ mission” has set a high bar for the party’s campaign.
