Running Out of Gas Mid-Meal? Here’s How to Check Your Cylinder Levels at Home

With the ongoing global fuel crisis, gas shortages are becoming a common concern. Unexpectedly running out of LPG in the middle of cooking is a major inconvenience. Fortunately, you don’t need a professional gauge to check your cylinder; a few simple household tricks can keep you prepared.

The Water Trick: Pour room-temperature water over the cylinder from top to bottom. After a few seconds, run your hand down the side. The area that feels cold indicates the level of liquid LPG remaining inside, as the liquid absorbs heat, cooling that part of the surface.

Weight Calculation: Every cylinder has its ’empty weight’ (tare weight) embossed on the body. Use a weighing scale to measure the current total weight and subtract the empty weight. The difference is the exact amount of gas left.

Observe the Flame: If your stove’s flame turns a pale yellow or loses its usual intensity, or if cooking takes longer than usual, it’s a clear sign that your gas is running low.

By using these methods, you can anticipate when your gas is about to run out and book a refill in time, ensuring your kitchen runs smoothly.
