April 10, 2026

In the high-stakes battle for the Panihati Assembly seat, the mother of the RG Kar victim filed her nomination as the BJP candidate on Thursday. Flanked by senior party leaders at the Barrackpore administrative building, she is set for a triangular contest against TMC’s Tirthankar Ghosh and CPIM’s Kaltan Dasgupta. Her affidavit filed with the Election Commission reveals the financial standing of the family.
Key Highlights of the Affidavit:
- Financial Assets: The candidate holds movable assets worth ₹19,02,432. She has ₹20,000 in cash, while her husband holds ₹40,000. She also has fixed deposits (FDs) totaling ₹9 lakh in a nationalized bank.
- A Daughter’s Legacy: In a poignant disclosure, the affidavit mentions a Maruti Baleno car worth over ₹8 lakh. The vehicle was purchased by her daughter on March 12, 2024, just months before the tragic incident. Following her death, the ownership was transferred to her parents.
- Jewelry & Property: She owns 30 grams of gold valued at approximately ₹4.35 lakh. While she owns no immovable property, her husband owns their residence in Sodepur, valued at ₹20 lakh.
- Clean Record: The candidate has no criminal cases registered against her.
Though a newcomer to politics, she has centered her campaign on women’s safety and the demand for justice for her daughter, making Panihati one of the most watched constituencies in this election.
