Major Setback for WB Govt; Supreme Court Slams State Over Chingrighata Metro Delay

The Supreme Court has taken a stern stance against the West Bengal government regarding the persistent delay in the Chingrighata Metro project. Despite only 366 meters of construction remaining for the Orange Line, the state had repeatedly stalled work citing traffic issues. On Monday, the bench headed by the Chief Justice dismissed the state’s petition and criticized the administration for creating unnecessary hurdles.

The Apex Court upheld the Calcutta High Court’s ruling, stating that developmental projects should not be tainted by political motives. The court questioned why the police raised new issues in March after an agreement was reached in December. The responsibility to finalize the operational roadmap now lies entirely with the Calcutta High Court.
