Major Rail Block Alert: Dozens of Trains Cancelled Due to Infrastructure Work; Check Details Before Travelling
Indian Railways has announced a series of major traffic and power blocks across various divisions to facilitate essential track maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. Due to these ongoing works, several local, mail, and express trains have been cancelled or short-terminated in mid-March 2026. This move is part of the railways’ commitment to enhancing passenger safety and improving signalling systems.
In the Eastern Railway zone, specifically within the Sealdah Division, work on a Limited Height Subway (LHS) between Baruipur and Diamond Harbour stations has led to the cancellation of several services. Additionally, Howrah and Sealdah divisions have announced the cancellation of nearly 40 local trains on Sunday and Monday to accommodate maintenance on the Burdwan and Bandel lines. Some long-distance trains, including the Howrah-Rampurhat Shahid Express, are expected to be regulated or delayed during their journey.
Similar disruptions are reported from South India, where engineering works in the Erode-Karur sector and parts of Karnataka have led to the partial cancellation of several passenger and MEMU services. Passengers are strongly advised to verify their train status via the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) or by calling the 139 helpline before heading to the station. While these blocks cause temporary inconvenience, the railway authorities emphasize that such maintenance is vital for long-term operational efficiency and safety.
