A major accident occurred in Kolkata’s busy Ultadanga area this morning when a speeding lorry crashed into a massive iron height bar on Canal Road. The impact was so severe that the heavy steel structure was completely uprooted and collapsed onto the road. The incident led to an immediate traffic snarl-up on one of North Kolkata’s most crucial thoroughfares, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.

According to witnesses, the lorry was heading towards VIP Road at a high speed. Despite the height bar clearly demarcating the clearance limit, the driver attempted to pass through without slowing down. The top of the container struck the structure with a deafening thud, bringing the entire frame down. Fortunately, no vehicles or pedestrians were directly underneath the bar at the exact moment of its collapse, preventing what could have been a fatal tragedy.

The Ultadanga Traffic Guard and local police units arrived at the scene promptly. The killer lorry was seized, and the driver was taken into custody for reckless driving. A heavy-duty crane was summoned to clear the wreckage from the middle of the road. It took nearly two hours to restore normalcy on Canal Road. Police are currently investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or if there was a mechanical failure.
