In a significant overhaul to boost ease of doing business, the government has introduced crucial amendments to the GST framework. Under the revised norms, the powers of GST officials to arrest taxpayers have been substantially restricted.

The monetary threshold for initiating prosecution has been raised from ₹1 crore to ₹5 crore. Additionally, standard penalties have been reduced from ₹25,000 to ₹10,000, while the refund processing period has been shortened from 15 days to 10 days.
