India is embarking on a landmark journey with the launch of ‘Digital Census 2027’, a significant upgrade from traditional paper-based methods. For the first time in the country’s history, citizens will have the option of ‘Self-Enumeration’, allowing them to securely fill in their family details online from the comfort of their homes. This move aims to empower citizens and streamline the vast data collection process.

In addition to self-reporting, government enumerators visiting homes will also switch to digital devices like tablets and smartphones to record information. This digital transformation is expected to minimize errors, ensure data privacy, and significantly reduce the time required to process and release census results. The 2027 Census is of paramount importance as it will serve as the primary database for planning national infrastructure, welfare schemes, and economic policies for the next decade.
