Double Trouble in Bengal! North Continues to Suffer While Rain Predicted for South Bengal Today

The weather in West Bengal is undergoing a dramatic shift today. While Northern districts continue to reel under persistent storms, Southern Bengal is now gearing up for evening thundershowers. According to the Alipore Met Office, Kolkata will experience a partially cloudy sky throughout the day, with a high chance of lightning and rain towards the late afternoon or evening.

Today’s maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are expected to hover around 32°C and 25°C respectively. In North Bengal, districts like Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri remain under a yellow alert as turbulent weather conditions continue to disrupt daily life. The hilly terrains are witnessing heavy downpours coupled with gusty winds, making travel difficult for tourists.

In South Bengal, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are creating an uncomfortable humidity during the day, which will likely trigger thunderstorm activity by the evening. Districts like Birbhum, Nadia, and Murshidabad are also on the radar for sporadic rainfall. While this rain might bring a temporary dip in temperature, long-term forecasts suggest an early onset of harsh summer heat due to El Nino. Residents are advised to stay indoors during the thunderstorms to avoid mishaps related to lightning strikes.
