‘Conspiracy to Revive Naxalism?’ CM Yogi’s Stern Warning as Noida Protests Turn Violent

The Phase-2 industrial area of Noida transformed into a virtual war zone on Sunday as workers’ protests for higher wages and better facilities turned violent. The agitation escalated rapidly, with protesters resorting to heavy stone-pelting and torching several vehicles, including police vans. The violence led to massive traffic snarls and a state of high alert in the industrial hub.

The unrest was triggered by the Haryana government’s recent decision to hike the minimum wage for unskilled workers by 35%, increasing it from ₹11,274 to ₹15,220. Workers in Noida are now demanding a similar pay structure from the Uttar Pradesh government, citing wage disparity for the same nature of work. Concerns regarding workplace safety and the lack of weekly offs were also highlighted by the agitators.

Reacting to the chaos, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that while workers have a right to fair pay and safe environments, violence will not be tolerated. He directed officials to take stringent action against those inciting the mob. In a significant statement, the CM warned against a “conspiracy to revive near-extinct Naxalism” under the guise of labor movements. Heavy police deployment continues in Noida Phase-2 to maintain law and order.
