A Massive ₹3,600 Crore Boost; Assam Govt Credits ₹9,000 to 40 Lakh Women’s Bank Accounts
In a landmark initiative for women’s empowerment, the Assam government, led by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, has transferred ₹9,000 each to the bank accounts of nearly 40 lakh women. The total disbursement of ₹3,600 crore covers pending monthly aid and a special Bihu festival bonus. Launched in Guwahati, the CM emphasized that this is a continuous effort to support vulnerable groups, including widows, divorced women, and those from families battling critical illnesses. He asserted that Assam has become a national leader in direct benefit transfers for women’s welfare.
Simultaneously, Manipur has announced a significant financial commitment to support its women. Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh declared that the state government would allocate ₹350 crore in the upcoming budget to assist approximately 3.5 lakh women. This initiative aims to provide financial relief to those struggling due to the recent ethnic violence in the state. Manipur’s administration is now shifting its focus from mere ‘women’s development’ to ‘women-led development,’ with plans to reinvigorate projects like ‘Mission Shakti’ and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ to ensure comprehensive economic and social support for the women of Manipur.
