Chaos in Egra; Doctor and Councillor’s Family Clash Over Medical Appointment
A heated confrontation broke out at a doctor’s private chamber in Egra, Purba Medinipur, on Monday evening, leading to a tense standoff between the local councillor and a physician. The incident occurred when the wife and mother-in-law of Ward No. 8 councillor Debdulabh Maiti visited Dr. Tapendu Manna for medical consultation. Allegedly, a request for priority attention led to a verbal spat with the doctor’s assistant, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation following the councillor’s arrival.
The councillor’s family has accused the doctor of misbehaving with the women present and assaulting the councillor. The incident triggered public outrage, with local residents gathering to protest. Egra police arrived promptly to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control. While heavy police patrolling continues in the area to prevent further flare-ups, both parties are reportedly preparing to file formal police complaints. The doctor has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
