A special programme was organised in New Town on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day with the objective of strengthening the spirit of freedom, national unity, mutual harmony and the bonds of friendship. The programme, titled ‘Bandhan – In the Spirit of Freedom’, was organised by SPK Jain Futuristic Academy in collaboration with the NGO-supported school ‘Neev’.

The event was held at the SPK Jain Futuristic Academy campus in Action Area II, New Town. The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag.

Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Ashok Kumar Ganguly hoisted the national flag. Senior Advocate of the Calcutta High Court Sudhir Kumar Mehta, MLA Papia Adhikari, social worker Priya Bachawat and Principal Jayita Ganguly were present as special guests.

The presence of students, teachers and invited guests created a festive atmosphere on the school premises. One of the key objectives of the programme was to highlight the history of India’s freedom struggle, the responsibility towards the nation and the importance of national unity among the younger generation.

Mr Sudhir Kumar Mehta gave emphasis on equality in education of marginalised society and one tiny step in this regard is a new vertical of Sabha with MKMehta Foundation and Neeve where a new mission Margin- to Mainstream is going to be undertaken where marginalised society will be provided all educational facility matching to top standard with grooming and mentoring till person joins mainstream and capable of returning back to society.

Mrs. Papia Adhikari MLA also attended the programme and appreciated Margin to Main Stream programme and requested Mr Mehta to open a similar educational academy in her Tollygunge Constituency to which Mr . Sudhir Kumar Mehta agreed.
Mrs. Kalpana Mehta was also present and she expressed good wishes to young children.
