91 Lakh Names Deleted from Bengal Voter List! Who Will Reap the ‘Delete Dividend’ This Election?

With just 15 days left for the first phase of polling, West Bengal is reeling under a massive political controversy as over 90.83 lakh names have been purged from the voter list. The sudden deletion of nearly 9.1 million voters through the SIR process has triggered a debate on who will gain the ‘delete dividend’ in this high-stakes battle. While a TMC delegation headed to the Election Commission in Delhi, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited the CEO’s office in Kolkata to discuss the fallout.
The numbers are staggering: from 7.66 crore voters in October 2025, the count of valid voters has plummeted to 6.77 crore. Out of the deleted names, over 27 lakh were flagged as ‘illegal’ in the latest supplementary list released on Monday night.
Amidst this chaos, the Election Commission of India has issued a powerful mandate. The EC stated, “This election will be fearless and free from violence. No coercion, booth jamming, or rigging will be tolerated.” With the voter base shrinking significantly and the Commission tightening its grip on security, the upcoming Bengal polls are heading toward an unprecedented and unpredictable showdown.
