War Alert! India Steps Up Diplomacy as PM Modi Expresses Concern Over Civilian Casualties in Iran Conflict

Amid the escalating conflict between Iran, Israel, and the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a high-stakes telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday. The dialogue focused heavily on the deteriorating security situation in the Gulf region and its impact on India’s strategic interests.

Expressing deep concern over the loss of civilian lives and damage to infrastructure, PM Modi emphasized that the safety of over 9,000 Indian nationals currently in Iran is a top priority for his government. He also stressed the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted flow of trade and energy supplies through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that a massive evacuation effort is underway, with the Indian Embassy in Tehran assisting students and pilgrims in crossing land borders into Armenia and Azerbaijan to fly back home. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has held multiple rounds of talks with his Iranian counterpart to ensure the protection of commercial vessels. This proactive diplomatic maneuver by India aims to balance regional stability with national energy security during these turbulent times.
