Violence Returns to Darjeeling! Two BGPM Workers Brutally Attacked, Fingers Severed in Clash

The political climate in Darjeeling turned violent late Thursday night following a near-fatal attack on two workers of Anit Thapa’s Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM). The victims, identified as Sanjog Subba and Satyam Subba, were allegedly ambushed by a mob of 8-10 armed goons in the Lower Reeling area. Both are currently in critical condition at Darjeeling District Hospital; Sanjog has tragically lost two fingers, while Satyam sustained multiple severe head injuries.

BGPM leadership has pointed fingers at the BJP, claiming that flags of the saffron party were recovered from a vehicle abandoned by the fleeing attackers. GTA Chief Executive Anit Thapa, who visited the injured on Friday morning, condemned the incident, stating, “There is a deliberate attempt to disturb the peace in the hills. We will fight this legally, but I warn the opposition not to cross their limits.”

The BJP has vehemently denied any involvement. Sanjeev Lama, BJP’s Darjeeling Hill President, dismissed the allegations as a political stunt to tarnish their image, suggesting the clash stemmed from internal or personal disputes. With the elections approaching, this violent episode has once again raised concerns about law and order in the North Bengal hills, as police continue their investigation.
