Ahead of the Bengali New Year 1433, Kolkata’s footballing powerhouses—Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC—have announced grand celebrations to uphold the Maidan’s century-old tradition. On Wednesday, April 15, both clubs will perform the auspicious ‘Bar Puja’ to mark the start of the new football season and the Bengali year.

Mohun Bagan’s schedule begins at 9:30 AM with rituals, followed by a felicitation ceremony and a musical performance by Rishi Panda at 10:30 AM. Club President Debashis Dutta described the day as a bridge across generations. On the other hand, the Red-and-Gold brigade will kick off their festivities at 10:00 AM. Senior official Debabrata Sarkar emphasized that the club is not just a team but an emotion for millions. Both clubs have extended heartfelt invitations to members, fans, and former players to join the celebrations, proving that in the heart of Kolkata, football and culture go hand in hand.
