TMC Panchayat Member Accused of Savage Attack with Iron Rods on BJP Workers

Political tension has spiked in Basirhat South following a violent attack on a BJP worker and his elderly father. The incident occurred at Itinda Daspara in Sakchura Bagundi Panchayat, where TMC Panchayat member Dulal Das is alleged to have led a brutal assault on BJP activists Prafulla Das and his son Tarak Das.

The Incident: According to local reports, Tarak Das had participated in the nomination rally of BJP candidate Shaurya Bandyopadhyay earlier that day. Allegedly, as a direct consequence, a group led by the local TMC leader stormed their house at night. Tarak was violently beaten, and when his father Prafulla tried to intervene, he was struck with iron rods and bamboo sticks. Prafulla Das is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Basirhat.

Political Reaction: BJP candidate Shaurya Bandyopadhyay slammed the ruling party, stating that workers are being targeted merely for their political affiliation. He confirmed that a formal complaint is being filed with the Election Commission. Dismissing the allegations, TMC candidate Surjit Mitra termed it a “non-political dispute,” claiming that BJP is trying to gain sympathy through “dirty politics” as they foresee a defeat in the upcoming polls.
