TMC Escalates Assam Campaign! 7 More Candidates Announced in Second List After Initial 17

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has intensified its electoral push in Assam by releasing a second list of seven candidates for the upcoming 126-member Assembly elections. Following the announcement of 17 candidates in the first phase, this new list brings further clarity to the party’s ‘Ekla Cholo’ (go it alone) strategy in the northeastern state. The decision to field more candidates independent of the Congress-led alliance marks a significant shift in the state’s political dynamics.

A key highlight of the second list is the inclusion of former Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed, who has been fielded from the Mandia constituency. Interestingly, the party also announced the withdrawal of the candidature of its State Senior Vice-President Dulu Ahmed from the Chamaria seat, indicating a tactical reshuffling of resources and leadership on the ground. This move suggests that the TMC is prioritizing winning probability and local influence over traditional party seniority in certain key zones.

Assam TMC President Sushmita Dev has consistently maintained that the party aims to replicate the “Bengal Development Model” in Assam while directly challenging the BJP’s dominance. By releasing this second list of seven names, the TMC has signaled its intent to contest in constituencies where it believes the opposition alliance is weak or where its organizational strength has seen recent growth. As the polling date of April 9 approaches, the entry of these new faces is set to spark a multi-cornered contest in several districts, potentially altering the vote-share mathematics of both the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahajot.
