This state-of-the-art Japanese technology is designed to make Indian warships virtually “invisible” to enemy eyes. Named ‘Unified Complex Radio Antenna’ (UNICORN), this system is being hailed as the ocean’s new invisible warrior, capable of providing a strategic edge that could leave adversaries struggling to keep up.

The ‘UNICORN’ is an integrated mast system that houses multiple communication and surveillance antennas inside a single, streamlined conical structure. Traditionally, the cluttered antennas on top of a warship increase its Radar Cross Section (RCS), making it an easy target for enemy detection. However, the UNICORN’s stealth design minimizes radar reflections, allowing the ship to blend into the background noise of the sea. This ensures that the vessel can approach enemy territory or monitor sensitive zones without being detected on conventional radar screens.

This partnership holds immense geopolitical significance, especially amidst rising tensions in the South China Sea. By equipping the Indian Navy with this stealth technology, India is significantly boosting its tactical capabilities to counter high-tech threats from regional rivals.
