The political atmosphere in West Bengal’s Bhowanipore constituency has reached a boiling point following the appearance of a controversial banner. The poster, attributed to the ‘South Kolkata Fam Community,’ depicts a sacrificial goat with the face of Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari superimposed on it, captioned: “Bhowanipore will witness a sacrifice this time.”

The TMC has intensified the heat with a provocative new slogan: “Suvendu, the thorn in Bhowanipore’s side, is now the sacrificial goat.” This campaign has spilled over to social media, with mock invites circulating for people to witness the ‘sacrifice’ at Kalighat Temple on May 4th.

Parallel to this poster war, a major controversy has erupted over the revision of voter lists. Reports suggest that over 40% of the names deleted during the special summary revision belong to the Muslim community, despite them making up only 20% of the local population. This massive disproportion has raised eyebrows and led to allegations of electoral malpractice. With both the poster row and voter list discrepancies colliding, Bhowanipore is currently a political tinderbox.
