Storm Clouds Over Kolkata! Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Districts in Bengal

After days of humid and sweltering weather, Kolkata and several districts of South Bengal woke up to a cloudy sky this Wednesday. The intensity of the sun has diminished significantly, providing much-needed respite to the residents. However, this pleasant shift comes with a warning. The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Kolkata and surrounding districts, predicting moderate rainfall and thunderstorms later today.

Affected Regions: Due to the influx of moisture from the Bay of Bengal, districts including Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, and Howrah are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall. The Met Office has warned that these showers could be accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. North Bengal is also expected to experience scattered rainfall in certain pockets.

Relief from Humidity: While the rain is expected to bring down the mercury by a few notches, the high humidity levels might still cause some discomfort. Nevertheless, the evening breeze is likely to make the weather quite pleasant for commuters. Authorities have advised citizens to carry umbrellas and stay indoors during lightning and thunder.
