Safety Revolution! Eastern Railway Implements ‘Kavach 4.0’ on High-Density Howrah-Delhi Route!
In a monumental achievement for passenger safety and technological prowess, Eastern Railway has successfully implemented ‘Kavach 4.0’ on the crucial Howrah-Bardhaman-Chhota Ambana section. This high-density route, which forms part of the vital Howrah-New Delhi corridor, is now equipped with the latest version of India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system. This move is a major step toward eliminating train collisions and ensuring a seamless travel experience.
‘Kavach 4.0’ is an advanced, state-of-the-art safety system designed to assist loco pilots in preventing signal passing at danger (SPAD) and overspeeding. In scenarios where two trains happen to be on the same track, the system automatically triggers the brakes without human intervention. The 4.0 version is significantly more robust, offering better integration with modern signaling systems and providing real-time cabin displays for pilots, which is especially critical during dense fog or heavy rain.
Railway officials emphasized that implementing Kavach on this high-density section was a priority due to the sheer volume of passenger and freight traffic. By securing the stretch from Howrah to Chhota Ambana, the Eastern Railway has paved the way for higher speeds for flagship trains like Vande Bharat and Rajdhani Express. This milestone reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and its vision of achieving zero accidents through cutting-edge technology. The successful rollout in this section sets a precedent for the nationwide expansion of the Kavach system.
