R.N. Ravi Sworn In as New Governor of West Bengal; CM Mamata Banerjee Attends Ceremony

R.N. Ravi was officially sworn in as the Governor of West Bengal today, with Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Pal, administering the oath. The ceremony, which commenced at 11:30 AM, saw the presence of key political figures including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, and Left Front Chairman Biman Bose. Notably, no leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were present at the event.

Appointed following the resignation of his predecessor, C.V. Ananda Bose, on March 5, R.N. Ravi brings a wealth of experience from his previous tenures as Governor of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu. A 1976-batch IPS officer, Ravi has a distinguished background in intelligence and internal security, having served in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and CBI. Known for his expertise in counter-terrorism and his role in facilitating peace talks with insurgent groups in the Northeast, his appointment marks a significant transition for the state. His track record of bridging the gap between Raj Bhavan and the general public during his time in Tamil Nadu has raised expectations for a proactive approach in his new role in West Bengal.
