“People are Living in Fear!” Agnimitra Paul Alleges Intimidation as Households Keep Doors Shut

The election campaign of BJP leader Agnimitra Paul took a controversial turn today when she encountered rows of closed doors and empty streets in a residential neighborhood. Despite the loud accompaniment of traditional drums (Dhaks) and microphones, the lack of public response was stark. Agnimitra Paul has labeled this phenomenon as the result of “terror politics,” claiming that voters have been threatened into staying indoors by local miscreants.
During her door-to-door campaign, Paul expressed her frustration, stating that democracy is being stifled through intimidation. “The people want to talk to us, they want change, but they are terrified of what happens after we leave. They are watching us through their curtains, afraid that stepping out will invite retaliation from the ruling party’s goons,” she remarked. Several BJP workers claimed that even after repeated knocking, residents refused to interact, citing “instructions” from local leaders.
The ruling party has dismissed these allegations as “theatrics,” suggesting that the cold response is a sign of the BJP’s declining popularity rather than fear. However, political experts suggest that such a visible display of voter withdrawal indicates a tense electoral atmosphere. Agnimitra Paul remains undeterred, asserting that the “silent majority” will voice their dissent through the secret ballot. The incident has sparked a heated debate over the freedom to campaign and the safety of voters in the state.
