One Call from Abhishek Does the Trick! Asit Mazumdar Ends Protest, Vows to Support Debangshu
The internal rift within the Trinamool Congress in the Hooghly Lok Sabha segment seems to have been doused by the party’s National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee. After days of flip-flopping and expressing discontent over Debangshu Bhattacharya’s candidature, Chandannagar MLA Asit Mazumdar has finally fallen in line. Following a decisive phone call from Abhishek Banerjee on March 19, 2026, the veteran leader announced his full support for the young candidate.
Asit Mazumdar had been making headlines for his inconsistent stance, which hinted at a potential boycott of Debangshu’s campaign in his constituency. This had raised concerns within the party high command regarding the party’s performance in Hooghly. However, the situation turned around within minutes after the “Senapati” of TMC reached out to him. “Abhishek is like my younger brother. He called me, and that settles everything. I am with Debangshu,” Mazumdar stated emphatically.
Political analysts view this as a major victory for Abhishek Banerjee’s crisis-management skills. By bringing a seasoned politician like Mazumdar back into the fold, TMC has ensured a unified front against the BJP in the region. Debangshu Bhattacharya also welcomed the news, acknowledging Mazumdar’s seniority and influence. With the storm cleared, the focus now shifts back to the grassroots campaign where the duo is expected to share the stage soon.
