Not Just Suvendu! Brother Dibyendu Adhikari Gets BJP Ticket for 2026 Assembly Polls

The BJP has played its strongest card in the East Medinipur region by fielding Dibyendu Adhikari, the younger brother of Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, for the upcoming 2026 Assembly Elections. In the second list of 111 candidates released on Thursday, the party confirmed Dibyendu’s nomination from the Egra constituency. This move signals a coordinated effort by the Adhikari family to cement the BJP’s dominance in their home turf.

Dibyendu Adhikari, a veteran politician who previously served as the MLA for Kanthi Dakshin and as an MP from Tamluk under the TMC banner, joined the BJP in 2024. While he stayed away from the electoral fray during the last general elections, the BJP leadership has now decided to utilize his vast organizational experience and personal popularity for the state assembly battle. By fielding him from Egra, the party intends to recapture a seat that has seen a fierce tug-of-war between the TMC and BJP in recent years.

The inclusion of Dibyendu alongside Suvendu (who is contesting from Nandigram and Bhabanipur) has energized the BJP cadre in South Bengal. Political analysts view this as a strategic “pincer movement” by the BJP to lock down the Medinipur belt. With the Adhikari brothers actively leading the charge, the TMC faces a significant challenge in holding onto its rural strongholds. As the campaign heat rises, the “Adhikari vs. TMC” battle is set to be one of the most high-voltage narratives of the 2026 polls.
