‘Not an Official 9-to-5 Duty!’ Delhi BJP High Command Lashes Out at Bengal District In-Charges

In a major internal shake-up ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP central leadership has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the performance of several district in-charges, particularly the “Probashii” (outstation) leaders. During a high-stakes strategy meeting on Wednesday, Nitin Nabin, the BJP’s co-observer for Bengal, reportedly lost his cool over the lackadaisical attitude of certain leaders regarding booth management and public outreach. The meeting, which was meant to streamline poll preparations, turned into a session of stern warnings.
Sources within the party revealed that Nitin Nabin was particularly irked by reports that several leaders from neighboring states, who were tasked with strengthening district units, were treating their roles as mere formalities. Addressing these leaders directly, Nabin stated, “This is not an official government duty where you work by the clock and leave. Don’t come here just to roam around or treat it like a vacation. You must stand by the ground-level workers 24/7.”
The central leadership’s message was loud and clear: either perform or perish. Nabin went as far as to say that if any leader is unwilling to put in the hard work required on the ground, they should step down immediately. “If you don’t like working in the field, tell us clearly. There are plenty of others ready to take up the responsibility. But halfway efforts will not be tolerated in a crucial election like this,” he added during the closed-door session.
The friction highlights the growing pressure on the BJP to deliver results in West Bengal after previous setbacks. The central team is reportedly monitoring the daily activities of these leaders through a digital reporting system. This outburst from Nitin Nabin serves as a wake-up call for the state unit, emphasizing that the “Aura of Office” must be replaced by “Grassroots Activism.” With the 2026 battle looming, the BJP high command is in no mood to entertain “tourist politicians” in its ranks.
