No to US-Led Alliance! Jaishankar Advocates Direct Dialogue with Iran to Keep Hormuz Open

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reaffirmed India’s stance on the escalating crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. Rebuffing calls to join a multilateral military coalition led by the US, Jaishankar emphasized that India believes in direct diplomatic engagement with Iran to ensure the safety of its maritime trade and energy supplies.

According to Jaishankar, the historical ties between India and Iran provide a solid foundation for resolving issues through dialogue rather than military intervention. He highlighted that India’s primary concern is the unhindered movement of its vessels, and direct communication with Tehran has already proven effective. This move underlines India’s strategic autonomy, choosing de-escalation and sovereignty over taking sides in the West Asian conflict.
