Misri’s US Mission Amidst Trump’s Iran Deadline; High-Stakes Diplomacy Begins in Washington Tomorrow

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to embark on a crucial visit to Washington D.C. from April 8 to 10. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit aims to review the entire spectrum of India-U.S. bilateral relations and advance cooperation in key sectors including defense, trade, and science and technology. The visit follows the momentum set by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s trip to the U.S. in February.
The timing of the visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the expiration of President Trump’s deadline for a deal with Iran. U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, who is currently in the U.S., has been actively engaging with top officials, including Vice President JD Vance and FBI Director Kash Patel. Gor, who is scheduled to dine with President Trump today, recently emphasized that Trump views Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “true friend,” a bond that serves as the bedrock of the bilateral partnership.
During his stay, Misri will hold high-level parleys with senior U.S. administration officials. The discussions are expected to go beyond bilateral issues, touching upon regional and global developments of mutual interest. With the “Modi-Trump” friendship at its peak, Misri’s visit is seen as a move to solidify a defining strategic partnership for the 21st century.
