Massive Rail Upgrade! Book 1.25 Lakh Tickets Per Minute as PRS Gets a ₹1000 Crore Makeover

In a major relief for train commuters, Indian Railways is set to revolutionize its ticket booking infrastructure. Addressing years of complaints regarding slow servers and “session expired” errors, a new high-speed reservation system is being implemented. The booking capacity is set to leapfrog fivefold—from the current 25,000 tickets per minute to a staggering 1.25 lakh tickets per minute.

This overhaul, costing approximately ₹1,000 crore, aims to eliminate the influence of illegal software often used by touts. Indian Railways has already proactively blocked 2.5 crore suspicious user IDs to ensure fair access for genuine passengers. The new Passenger Reservation System (PRS) is expected to significantly ease the Tatkal rush, where every second counts.

Officials from the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) confirmed that the technology is currently in the testing phase. If all goes as planned, the upgraded system will be rolled out between April and June 2026. This modernization will not only prevent fraud but also ensure a seamless, frustration-free experience for millions of travelers.
