Lakhmi Bhandar Bonanza! Mamata Announces Major Hike in Monthly Allowance in TMC Manifesto

In a high-stakes move ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee today released the party’s manifesto, centering on women’s empowerment and rural development. Speaking from her Kalighat residence, the Chief Minister unveiled 10 “Promises” aimed at transforming the state’s socio-economic landscape. The biggest highlight remains the ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme, where she promised to increase the monthly allowance to ₹1,500 for general category women and ₹1,700 for SC/ST beneficiaries. “Our women will receive this support for life,” she declared, aiming to secure the massive women-voter bank.

Beyond direct cash transfers, the manifesto introduces ‘Duare Chikitsa’ (Healthcare at Doorstep), an extension of the popular ‘Duare Sarkar’ initiative. This program aims to organize block-level health camps to provide medical services directly to citizens. Addressing the concerns of the elderly, Mamata pledged the ‘Care for Seniors’ initiative, ensuring support for those living alone. For the youth, the ‘Banglar Yuvashakti’ project will continue providing ₹1,500 monthly to unemployed youth.

Furthermore, Mamata promised a dedicated ₹30,000 crore ‘Agriculture Budget’ to support landless farmers and modernize the sector. Other key proposals include the creation of seven new districts, ensuring a permanent ‘Pucca’ house for every family, and providing tap water to every household. With a vision to make Bengal the gateway to trade in Eastern India through a Global Trade Center, Mamata Banerjee has set a rigorous agenda for her potential fourth term. Critics argue it’s a populist push, but the TMC remains confident that these 10 promises will steer them to a decisive victory in 2026.
