Kalbaishakhi on New Year? Yellow Alert Issued for 8 Districts as Weather Shifts

As West Bengal prepares for Poila Baisakh, the Alipore Meteorological Department has brought a sigh of relief. While today, Tuesday, continues to be dry and humid for South Bengal, a significant weather shift is expected tomorrow. Thunderstorms and rain are likely to greet the state on the occasion of the Bengali New Year.

According to the IMD, a yellow alert has been issued for several districts including Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, Burdwan, Birbhum, and Murshidabad for April 15th and 16th. Winds gusting at 40-50 kmph are expected to accompany the rain. This shift is caused by a trough line stretching from Uttar Pradesh to Manipur, passing over Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh.

In contrast, North Bengal districts like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong are already under a yellow alert today, with light to moderate rainfall expected. Meteorologists have advised the public to stay indoors during lightning and avoid taking shelter under trees or electric poles. With the onset of the New Year, the scorching humidity is finally set to give way to pleasant showers across the state.
