“I Am Not the Mastermind!” Arrested MIM Leader Mofakkerul Denies Inciting Mothabari Violence

Mofakkerul Islam, the MIM leader and Calcutta High Court advocate arrested in connection with the harassment of judges at Mothabari, has denied all allegations of being the “mastermind.” In an exclusive interview with TV9 Bangla while being produced in court on Wednesday, he asserted that he did not incite any violence. However, he remained defiant about the cause, stating that protests against the deletion of valid voters from the SIR lists would continue across West Bengal.
Mofakkerul’s legal team argued that the “mastermind” label was a creation of the media and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. They claimed that while the incident occurred at Mothabari, the leader was delivering a speech 25 kilometers away in Suryapur. His lawyers alleged that the CM’s premature branding of him as the mastermind before a full investigation is helping the real culprits hide. Despite the controversy, Mofakkerul has pledged full cooperation with the NIA investigation into the matter.
