Hiran Out, Dilip In? Big Changes Expected in BJP’s Candidate List as Shamik’s Recommendations Take Lead
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to release its first list of candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections following a crucial three-hour meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. Sources reveal that the party has finalized names for 150 constituencies, with a major spotlight on former state president Dilip Ghosh.
Indications suggest that Dilip Ghosh might be fielded from his stronghold, Kharagpur Sadar, replacing the incumbent MLA Hiran Chatterjee, whose recent distance from the party leadership has raised eyebrows. Current state president Shamik Bhattacharya’s inputs were reportedly given top priority, ensuring that veteran workers and loyalists find a spot in the list. The meeting also decided to retain 80-90% of the sitting MLAs to maintain stability. Suvendu Adhikari is likely to contest again from Nandigram, while his brother Dibyendu Adhikari may be fielded from Kanthi. The high-profile meet saw the attendance of Suvendu Adhikari, Sukanta Majumdar, and Shamik Bhattacharya. All eyes are now on PM Modi’s Brigade rally tomorrow for a potential official announcement.
