A shocking case of domestic abuse and medical fraud has emerged from Kanpur, where a woman was allegedly pressured by her in-laws to either donate her kidney to her ailing husband or pay ₹30 lakhs. The victim married Nishant Kumar of Lucknow in June 2023, providing a hefty dowry including ₹8 lakhs in cash and a Mahindra Thar SUV. However, she soon discovered that her husband’s family had concealed a major medical truth: both of Nishant’s kidneys had failed due to addiction long before the marriage.

The victim’s complaint details a pattern of bizarre and predatory behavior. She alleged that her mother-in-law often slept between the couple to prevent intimacy, while her father-in-law entered her room without permission to take unsolicited photographs. Upon discovering Nishant’s medical files, which confirmed he was on dialysis, she was met with a chilling ultimatum by her in-laws. After escaping the house in October 2024, she filed a police complaint. Kanpur Police have registered a case of fraud and dowry harassment, with official Abhishek Pandey confirming that a thorough investigation is underway.
