Defying Party Orders; Saugata Roy Attends Rashtrapati Bhavan Breakfast, Sparks Controversy!

A fresh controversy has erupted within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as veteran MP Saugata Roy attended a breakfast event at Rashtrapati Bhavan, defying his party’s official boycott. The TMC had previously announced that its members would skip the event, held by President Droupadi Murmu, citing solidarity with Muslim parliamentarians observing the month of Ramadan.

The act of defiance has triggered strong reactions within the party and the opposition. TMC parliamentary deputy leader Satabdi Roy remarked, “Didi (Mamata Banerjee) will understand. I am not sure if Saugata-da’s actions align with the party’s stance.” Meanwhile, BJP leader Manoj Tigga seized the moment to take a dig, stating, “It seems Saugata Roy no longer listens to the party. Despite being such a senior MP, he is working above the party line.”

Political analysts suggest that Saugata Roy, one of the most senior MPs in Parliament, may have prioritized parliamentary etiquette and institutional respect over party directives. Whether this move was a deliberate act of independence or a choice rooted in decorum remains the central question, one that is likely to keep the party’s internal corridors buzzing.
