In a chilling incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a resident of Dum Dum, Arup Bandyopadhyay, lost his life in a tragic lift accident. The victim was reportedly trying to save his son when he got trapped in the malfunctioning elevator.

The family has leveled sensational allegations against the hospital authorities, stating that despite desperate pleas for help from Arup’s wife, no one came forward. They claimed that the absence of a designated liftman led to this fatal outcome. Other patients’ kin alleged that the elevator had been faulty for several days, yet no warning signs were posted. Preliminary police reports suggest the lift was moving erratically, causing multiple traumatic injuries to the victim.

Following orders from the CMO, a special investigation team from the Health Department and PWD has been dispatched to the site. Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam confirmed that the operational status of the lift is being scrutinized. As the Chief Engineer of PWD reaches the spot, the incident has sparked a massive outcry over the deteriorating infrastructure and safety protocols at state-run hospitals.
