DA Delay Sparks Concern! Why hasn’t the Centre Announced the Hike Even After April 10?

Over 10 days into April 2026, millions of central government employees are still awaiting the official announcement regarding the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike. Traditionally declared by late March or early April, the 2026 announcement has been notably delayed. With the 7th Pay Commission’s term concluded as of December 31, 2025, and the 8th Pay Commission yet to be fully implemented, employees find themselves in a state of uncertainty.
Experts suggest that this delay is primarily administrative and linked to the transition phase towards the 8th Pay Commission. According to AICPI-IW data, a 2% hike is anticipated, which would push the DA from 58% to a significant 60%. Financial analysts believe the government is meticulously reviewing inflation data and liquidity trends before making a final call.
The silver lining for employees is that there will be no financial loss despite the delay. The revised DA will be effective retrospectively from January 1, 2026. Any delay in the notification will be compensated through the payment of arrears. Sources indicate that the official announcement is likely to arrive between the second and third weeks of April 2026.
