Civil War in CPIM! Party Office Trashed Over Candidate Selection, 7 Members Expelled

The CPIM’s attempt to reclaim lost ground in West Bengal hit a major roadblock in Nadia’s Kaliganj as internal factionalism turned violent. The announcement of Sabina Yasmin, mother of the late Tamanna Khatun, as the official candidate triggered a massive backlash from a section of local party workers. On Tuesday, the situation escalated into a rampage, with disgruntled members storming the party office and destroying furniture and equipment.
Taking a zero-tolerance stance, the CPIM high command has expelled seven party members, including Ajay Sarkar, Saidul Sheikh, and Sentu Sheikh, for their involvement in the violence. Nadia District Secretary Meghlal Sheikh issued a statement confirming their immediate removal. The rebels had demanded a change in candidacy, claiming Sabina was not the popular choice locally. This public display of discord has raised serious questions about the party’s unity just weeks before the crucial 2026 Assembly elections. While the leadership tries to send a strong message of discipline, the cracks in the red bastion might jeopardize their chances of breaking the ‘zero’ seat jinx on May 4.
