“Break Their Limbs!” BJP Moves Election Commission Against Abhishek Banerjee’s Fiery Speech

The political climate in West Bengal has reached a boiling point ahead of the elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally approached the Election Commission, lodging a complaint against TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee for allegedly making “provocative and inciting” remarks.
According to the BJP’s petition, during a rally in Raina, East Burdwan, Banerjee openly directed followers to “break the heads, necks, and limbs” of BJP workers. The saffron party further alleged that his rhetoric regarding “breaking the spine” of opposition workers in South Bengal is a deliberate attempt to instill fear and intimidate voters. The BJP argued that such language is fundamentally anti-democratic and endangers the peaceful conduct of the polls.
The complaint also brings Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee under the scanner, accusing her of using inflammatory language. Citing the post-poll violence of 2021, the BJP expressed grave concerns that such rhetoric could trigger another wave of unrest. They have urged the Commission to take immediate and decisive action to ensure a free and fair election environment in the state.
