A shocking incident of molestation has sparked massive outrage in the Shikarpur region under the Rajganj Assembly constituency, just as election fervor peaks. On Wednesday night, a young woman waiting for a bus to Siliguri took a seat at a nearby fast-food outlet due to a delay. According to the complaint, a local youth began making lewd gestures before forcibly sitting next to her and molesting her. The situation turned even more sinister when the accused allegedly grabbed her hand and tried to drag her into the darkness.

Showing exemplary courage, the victim fought back by grabbing the accused’s collar and shouting for help. Local bystanders rushed to the spot and began thrashing the perpetrator, but he managed to escape in the ensuing chaos. A formal complaint has been lodged at the Belakoba police outpost under the Rajganj Police Station. Residents claim the accused is a habitual offender known for such predatory behavior. Neighbor Swapan Roy stated that the youth’s immediate arrest is necessary to ensure safety in the market area.
