Bihar Politics Shift: Nitish Kumar’s Last Cabinet Meet Today; BJP Likely to Claim CM Post

The curtains are set to draw on Nitish Kumar’s historic tenure as the Chief Minister of Bihar. Following his oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10, the 75-year-old veteran is expected to submit his resignation today after a final cabinet meeting at 11 AM. As Bihar’s longest-serving CM prepares for his exit, the political spotlight shifts toward the formation of a new government led by the BJP.
With a strong majority of 202 seats in the 243-member assembly, the NDA is firmly in control. This transition marks a historic moment as the BJP, with 89 seats, is poised to appoint its first-ever Chief Minister in the state. Frontrunners for the top post include Samrat Choudhary and Nityanand Rai. Central observer Shivraj Singh Chouhan is arriving in Patna today to oversee the selection process.
Despite the impending resignation, Nitish Kumar remained active on Monday, inspecting infrastructure projects and visiting his new residence at 7, Circular Road. Sources suggest the new CM will likely be sworn in on Wednesday. While the leadership changes, the outgoing cabinet is expected to remain largely intact, ensuring a smooth transition in Bihar’s governance.
