Big Alert for LPG Users, Is it illegal to store extra cylinders at home? Know the government limits to avoid jail
With the ongoing crisis in West Asia disrupting gas supplies, citizens are facing widespread uncertainty. As delivery delays spark panic-buying and black-market activities, many families are questioning the legal limits on LPG storage and annual bookings.
As per government norms, a domestic household is entitled to 12 subsidized 14.2kg cylinders per financial year. Once the quota is exhausted, consumers can purchase 3 additional cylinders at market rates, totaling 15 per year. To curb hoarding, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have enforced a mandatory 25-day gap between two bookings.
Regarding storage, safety regulations permit a maximum of two cylinders per household—one in use and one as a backup. Storing more than this is considered hazardous and illegal. Violating these norms can lead to severe consequences, including hefty fines and imprisonment. While commercial entities have different protocols, domestic users must prioritize safety and avoid illegal hoarding, as it significantly increases the risk of fire and invites legal scrutiny. Staying informed is the best way to handle this supply crisis safely.
