Air India Hikes Fares Amid Iran Conflict;New Fuel Surcharge Effective from Today!

The ongoing geopolitical tension in West Asia has directly impacted Indian aviation. Air India and Air India Express have announced a fresh fuel surcharge on both domestic and international tickets starting Thursday, March 12. The airline group cited escalating jet fuel prices and supply uncertainties due to the Iran conflict as the primary reasons for this hike.

Key Changes in Air India Fares:

  • Domestic & SAARC Flights: A flat fuel surcharge of ₹399 will be added to every ticket.
  • West Asia: Passengers will have to pay an additional $10 (approx. ₹900) per ticket.
  • South-East Asia: The surcharge has been increased from $40 to $60.
  • Africa: Flights to Africa will now carry a hefty $90 surcharge.

The management clarified that this is a step-by-step measure, and the charges will be reviewed periodically based on global oil prices and the overall situation in the international market.
