After impressing in the IPL and age-group cricket, 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi was handed the vice-captaincy for the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy. However, his debut in red-ball cricket ended on a disappointing note as he was dismissed for just 8 runs against North-East Zone in Bengaluru.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, North-East Zone skipper Rangsen Jonathan got early success. In the second over, Vaibhav started confidently by striking back-to-back boundaries off Bisworjit Konthoujam with crisp cover drives. However, attempting a similar drive on the final ball of the over backfired as he edged the ball to gully, where he was easily caught.

With an average of just 17.25 in first-class cricket, the Duleep Trophy serves as a crucial proving ground for the youngster. He will look to put this setback behind him quickly to stay in contention for higher honors.
