Indian music has lost its most vibrant voice. Legendary singer Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92, marking the end of a glorious era. Often referring to herself as the ‘Last Mughal’ after the passing of her sister Lata Mangeshkar, Asha’s journey was defined by her fierce determination to remain unique.

In the early stages of her career, Asha realized that sounding like her elder sister would limit her growth. To carve her own niche, she experimented with Spanish and Italian music, blending international styles into Indian playback singing. While Lata ruled the realm of melody, Asha brought a revolutionary flair to cabaret and pop music, proving that “an original can never be replaced by a copy.”

She was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday due to chest congestion and age-related complications. Despite intensive care, she breathed her last on Sunday afternoon following multi-organ failure. Her last rites will be performed with full state honors at Shivaji Park on Monday afternoon. Her legacy of resilience and unparalleled versatility will forever be etched in history.
