Fish-Rice Politics Heat Up! Shah Assures No Interference in Bengal’s Food Habits

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while unveiling the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ (Manifesto) in New Town, strongly refuted TMC’s allegations that fish and egg consumption would be banned if BJP comes to power in West Bengal. Terming it as “baseless propaganda,” Shah clarified that the party has no plans to interfere with the culinary traditions and food habits of the Bengali people.

“TMC is spreading lies to create fear among people. I want to state clearly that no such decision will be taken in Bengal. Our focus is solely on development, employment, and restoring law and order,” Shah asserted. He described the last 15 years of the TMC government as a “Kalratri” (Dark Night), claiming that the high hopes people had after the end of the Left front were completely betrayed by Mamata Banerjee.

Flanked by senior leaders like Suvendu Adhikari and Sukanta Majumdar, Shah promised that a BJP government would release a ‘White Paper’ on the alleged corruption and violence under TMC’s reign. With the 2026 Assembly Elections approaching, Shah’s direct clarification on sensitive cultural issues like food habits is seen as a strategic move to counter the ruling party’s narrative and gain the trust of the masses.
