Tragedy in Mysore: 6-Month-Old Baby Chokes to Death After Swallowing Hibiscus Flower

In a devastating incident reported from Mysore’s Hunsur Taluk, Karnataka, a six-and-a-half-month-old infant tragically lost his life after accidentally swallowing a hibiscus flower. The deceased, identified as Chinmay Gowda, was the second child of Sudarshan and Navya Gowda.

  • The Fatal Accident: On Sunday, while playing with his elder brother, Chinmay tore off a piece of a hibiscus flower kept for daily prayers and put it in his mouth. Although his brother noticed and tried to retrieve it, the infant had already swallowed the petal, which got lodged in his windpipe.
  • A Desperate Rescue Attempt: As the baby struggled to breathe, his panicked parents rushed him to a local primary health center in Hanagodu. Due to his critical condition, he was shifted to a private hospital in Mysore, where he unfortunately passed away despite medical efforts.

The local community is in deep shock over the incident. This tragic loss serves as a grim reminder for parents and caregivers to remain extremely vigilant and keep small objects, including flowers and tiny toys, out of the reach of infants who tend to put things in their mouths out of curiosity.
